Leibisch’s Journey with Lenny Ackerman

Moderated by Carolyn Brody
We are honored to have with us Lenny Ackerman, attorney, longtime East End resident, and now, storyteller — here to share a deeply personal and moving account of his father’s journey to America.
At just 12 years old, Leibisch Ackerman flees Ukraine alone during the Russian Revolution, aiming to reach his brother in America. His harrowing journey across war-torn Europe is upended by a tragic twist at the end of World War I, diverting him 5,000 miles and delaying his arrival by five years. Told by his son, Lenny Ackerman, this powerful true story explores resilience, loss, and the enduring pursuit of the American Dream.
