Rabbi Carnie Shalom Rose has lived, studied, and taught throughout the world – including professional stints in Canada, the USA, Israel, the Far East, and Europe. He is the son of Rabbi (Dr.) Neal and Carol Rose, is married to Paulie (an alumna of the Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education at JTS), and together they have four wonderful adult children – “The Rosebuds” – Noa, Zakai, Lev, & Ellior. Deeply committed to coexistence, ecumenism, and pluralism, Rabbi Rose continually strives to find innovative ways to make Jewish Tradition existentially relevant for contemporary seekers. He is a dynamic and passionate teacher & preacher and strives to bridge the ways of the past with the needs of the present for the sake of the future.
Ordained by the Rabbinical School of the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rose has received numerous local, regional, national and international honors, awards, and recognitions for his ongoing dedication to furthering Jewish education, inculcation, and engagement.
He served as a Fellow at CLAL – the Center For Learning and Leadership; was a member of the Jewish Federation’s National Young Leadership Cabinet; was selected to participate in the STAR Rabbis: From Good to Great Program; participated in KJL – The Kellogg School of Management’s Education for Jewish Leaders Circle; CLAL’s Rabbis Without Borders; the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Global Emerging Leaders Forum; the International Rabbinic Leadership Council which advises the Chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary; the Rabbinic Leadership Institute of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem; served as a Fellow at the Hebrew University’s Melton Center for Excellence in Jewish Education; was a mentor in CLI, the Clergy Leadership Incubator Program of Hazon; participated in the Rabbinical Assembly’s Zera’im – Seeds for Change initiative; was selected as a Jewish Wisdom Fellow at Hadar; served as a Fellow at Pardes – the Institute For Jewish Studies; and was part of the Education Team for the Maccabee Games in both North America and Israel.
Most recently, Rabbi Rose completed a 2nd Semichah (Rabbinic Ordination) Program, which focused on the use of Neo-Chassidism – contemporary applications of the texts, teachings and insights of the Chassidic Masters – to create greater meaning and spirituality for post-moderns.
After nearly three productive decades as a Congregational Rabbi, Rose served for several years as the President & CEO of the Mandel Jewish Community Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Though these were fulfilling and gratifying years, Rabbi Rose’s true and deepest love is for Shuls (Synagogue Centers) and his heart is most full when he is working to help create Kehillot, sacred communities, that employ Jewish Wisdom to recognize, honor, and uplift individuals and families. He now serves Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – the Shul at which he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah!
