SUMMARY:Challah Bake
DESCRIPTION:Families and adults of all ages are invited to roll up their sleeves and take part in this hands-on\, heart-filled experience: mixing\, kneading\, and braiding challah dough from scratch\, preparing a beautiful centerpiece for Shabbat. \nWhile the dough rises\, children will enjoy fun\, supervised activities and a pizza dinner\, while adults gather for refreshments\, conversation\, and learning to explore the deeper meaning of challah and Shabbat through Jewish texts and symbolism. \nThis is more than a baking event; it’s a chance to slow down and experience something truly special and holy\, making challah by hand and transforming simple ingredients into nourishment for both body and soul. Come be part of this joyful community experience. \n\n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.

SUMMARY:Book Club: Crossing the Bronx by David Hirshberg
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an opportunity to delve into an interesting book\, expand your thinking on a new topic or just meet new friends. Whether you’re an avid reader or just want to follow along with the group\, our book club welcomes you! \n \n\nCrossing the Bronx by David Hirshberg\nCrossing the Bronx is an historical literary novel set primarily in the 1950s in The Bronx. It is a modern retelling of the Jacob and Esau story from Genesis. The narrative that propels the story forward concerns the destruction of a neighborhood in the guise of progress. Jay and Eric\, the sons of Ike (an Italian Jew)\, and Rebekeh\, (a Mountain Jew)\, are estranged-as are their parents-and find themselves on opposite sides of a bitter struggle that pits those in power against the defenseless people of a local community. \n\n\n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Membership Status(Required)\n \n \n JCOH Member\n \n \n \n Shul House\n \n \n \n Non-member\n I will attend(Required)\n \n \n In-Person\n \n \n \n Virtually\n Non-member will attend(Required)\n \n \n Virtually\n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Please consider making a donation to support our programming\, classes\, and events.Select Donation Amount(Required)$1\,800$180$72$36$18Custom Amount$0.00Donation Amount:(Required)Your support is necessary to keep these programs open to our community.\n \n Please consider an additional 3% donation to offset credit card processing fees:\n \n Yes\, I wish to donate an additional 3% to offset credit card processing fees\n Additional 3%\n \n \n Price:\n $0.00\n \n \n \n Total\n \n Credit Card\n American ExpressDiscoverMasterCardVisaSupported Credit Cards: American Express\, Discover\, MasterCard\, Visa\n \n Card Number\n \n \n Expiration Date\n \n \n Month\n \n Month010203040506070809101112\n \n \n \n Year\n \n Year20262027202820292030203120322033203420352036203720382039204020412042204320442045\n \n \n \n \n \n                                                 \n Security Code\n \n \n \n Cardholder Name\n Family who will be joiningFirstLastRelationship    Add RemoveGuests who will be joiningFirstLastRelationship    Add RemoveHow did you learn about this event?(Required)\n \n \n Email\n \n \n \n Bulletin\n \n \n \n Facebook\n \n \n \n Instagram\n \n \n \n Word of mouth\n \n \n \n Other\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.\n\n

SUMMARY:Rabbi Wendy Zierler: TV and Torah
DESCRIPTION:Rabbi Wendy Zierler\, a scholar of Jewish literature and Hebrew poetry and Associate Professor at Hebrew Union College\, is also the author of Movies and Midrash. Recently\, she consulted on The Faithful\, a new series about biblical women. At our Scholar-in-Residence kickoff event\, she’ll explore how biblical storytelling and midrash can inspire imaginative new possibilities — including what collaboration between Hagar and Sarah might look like. \nGraciously sponsored by Andrew Saunders & Colleen Glew Saunders \n\n\n\n \nWendy Zierler is a rabbi\, writer\, and a professor of Modern Jewish Literature and Feminist Studies at a rabbinical school. Her academic career has been dedicated to teaching modern Hebrew and Jewish literature to future rabbis\, cantors and educators. Much of her work argues for the relevance of modern Jewish literary texts to Jewish life and classical learning\, and for finding ways for new books to live alongside or inside old ones. Zierler’s scholarship has also entailed translating and interpreting modern Hebrew literature from a feminist and gender studies standpoint\, with a focus on Hebrew women poets and prose writers and how they have rewritten and translated the traditional script in the context of women’s experience. More > \n\nShe holds the position of Sigmund Falk Professor of Modern Jewish Literature and Feminist Studies at Hebrew Union College in New York. Prior to joining HUC she was a Research Fellow in the English Department of the University of Hong Kong. She earned a Ph.D. and M.A. from Princeton University; a B.A. from Stern College of Yeshiva University; and an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College. In June 2021\, she received rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva Maharat. She also serves as Co-Editor of Prooftexts: A Journal of Jewish Literary History. \nAs a creative writer she has written a youth novel\, entitled\, The Return of Gerda Werthheimer and two collections of linked stories. < Less \n\n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.

SUMMARY:Rabbi Wendy Zierler: Going out with Knots: My Two Kaddish Years with Hebrew Poetry
DESCRIPTION:After experiencing profound personal and communal loss\, Rabbi Dr. Wendy Zierler turned to translating and teaching modern Hebrew poetry as a path through grief. In this session\, she will discuss the making of Going Out with Knots: My Two Kaddish Years with Hebrew Poetry\, sharing poems and reflections that weave together “the holy and the homespun.” The lecture will be followed by coffee and a book signing. SUMMARY:Tisha B'Av Service
DESCRIPTION:Tisha B’Av\, is a day of intense mourning for the Jewish people. It is a time when we commemorate many hardships and horrors that have befallen the Jewish people from the destruction of the Temples\, our expulsion from Spain\, and current day horrors. \nOn the eve of this day\, we read both from Megillat Eicha\, the book of lamentations\, and kinot\, poetic lamentation. \nYou are invited to join us at the Jewish Center for a thoughtful reading and discussion about what it means to mourn\, and how do we heal. \n\n\n\n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n CompanyThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Membership Status(Required)\n \n \n JCOH Member\n \n \n \n Shul House\n \n \n \n Non-member\n Shul House is our K-7 Sunday Jewish Learning program.I will attend(Required)\n \n \n In-person\n \n \n \n Virtually\n Non-member will attend(Required)\n \n \n Virtually\n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Please consider making a donation to support our programming\, classes\, and events.Select Donation Amount(Required)$1\,800$180$72$36$18Custom Amount$0.00Donation Amount:(Required)Your support is necessary to keep these programs open to our community.\n \n Please consider an additional 3% donation to offset credit card processing fees:\n \n Yes\, I wish to donate an additional 3% to offset credit card processing fees\n Additional 3%\n \n \n Price:\n $0.00\n \n \n \n Total\n \n Credit Card\n American ExpressDiscoverMasterCardVisaSupported Credit Cards: American Express\, Discover\, MasterCard\, Visa\n \n Card Number\n \n \n Expiration Date\n \n \n Month\n \n Month010203040506070809101112\n \n \n \n Year\n \n Year20262027202820292030203120322033203420352036203720382039204020412042204320442045\n \n \n \n \n \n                                                 \n Security Code\n \n \n \n Cardholder Name\n Family who will be joiningFirstLastRelationship    Add RemoveGuests who will be joiningFirstLastRelationship    Add RemoveHow did you learn about this event?(Required)\n \n \n Email\n \n \n \n Bulletin\n \n \n \n Facebook\n \n \n \n Instagram\n \n \n \n Word of mouth\n \n \n \n Other\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.

SUMMARY:Marques Hollie: Angel\, Adversary\, Apothecary: An Exploration of Satan in Jewish Sources
DESCRIPTION:When you think about Satan\, what comes to mind? The “Devil”? A red\, pitchfork-toting\, half human/half goat fella? Much of how Satan is depicted comes from Christian sources\, but he (or perhaps\, it) is not absent from Jewish sources either. In these adult learning sessions\, we’ll dive into those Jewish sources and begin to answer the question: who\, or what\, is Satan. \n\nOperatic tenor and jewsician\, Marques Hollie\, has been singing professionally since 2008. Since his debut in Opera Omaha’s production of Verdi’s Aïda\, he has gone on to perform more than 20 roles in the operatic canon\, including rarely performed and new works. Off the opera stage and onto the bimah\, he has served as a cantorial soloist for Shabbat and High Holidays services\, attended workshops taught by Joey Weisenberg at Hadar\, and facilitated meaningful and creative Jewish ritual with FED\, led by Deborah Fishman\, and Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains\, NY. More > \n\nAn emerging Jewish leader\, Marques was named one of New York Jewish Week’s 36 Under 36 in 2018 and a member of the inaugural cohort of the Union for Reform Judaism’s JewV’Nation Fellowship where he began developing Go Down\, Moshe\, a monodrama that explores the Passover story through Negro spirituals\, civil rights music\, and the narratives of enslaved people. Using his own lived experience to educate others\, he has spoken on panels about Jewish seeker-hood\, the diversity of Jewish identity\, and working with marginalized Jewish populations for organizations including: Limmud NY\, the Union for Reform Judaism\, and Hebrew Union College. < Less \n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.

SUMMARY:Who Shapes the Future of New York City?
DESCRIPTION:Manhattan Institute \nIn this timely lecture\, Reihan Salam examines the growing ideological divide shaping New York City and America’s urban future. Drawing from his personal experience as the son of immigrants and his work leading the Manhattan Institute\, Salam reflects on public safety\, assimilation\, capitalism\, civic identity\, and the changing political culture of New York. Framed in contrast to the socialist vision represented by Mayor Zohran Mamdani\, the discussion explores competing ideas about opportunity\, meritocracy\, social justice\, and the American dream — and asks what kind of city New York is becoming. \nReihan Salam | President of the Manhattan Institute \nGraciously sponsored by Kenneth Gilman & Carol Feinberg \n\n\nPhoto ID is required for entrance to Jewish Center of the Hamptons.\nAll in-person services are reserved for members and their pre-registered guests.\nNon-Members wishing to attend In-Person must contact the office at office@jcoh.org or call 631-324-9858.\nPrivate recordings on premises prohibited.
